What is the New York Pass?

New York Pass is one of six attraction passes for New York (here you can see all the candidates in my New York Pass comparison). If New York is the destination of your trip to the USA, it is a great way to experience many sights, exciting boat tours and other unique tours at a reasonable price and see the best of New York. It is one of the absolute best city passes and I have used it several times.

You can choose between the New York Pass for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 days. It is activated as soon as you use it for the first time (not when you buy it)

The more of New York’s attractions you visit with the New York Pass, the more you save!

The list of major attractions and activities included in the New York Pass is super comprehensive. You can choose from over 100 of the best sights and tours, as well as discounts at various shops and restaurants. This also makes it interesting for families, as you can then plan with a fixed travel budget.

Is the New York Pass worth it? Calculation example #2

Even if the attractions you want to visit in New York don’t include the most expensive individual tickets and, as in my case here, the real highlights are spread over just 2 days, you’ll save over $80 (7 attractions, including a very relaxed cruise).

The rule of thumb applies: The more expensive the individual ticket for the attraction you visit with the New York Pass is, the more worthwhile it is for you.

When is the New York Pass not worth it?

If there are only a few attractions on your itinerary, the New York Pass is not worthwhile. It follows the all-inclusive approach, where you can visit as many attractions as you want or can manage once you’ve paid. And it’s the best!

Even if you don’t want to visit any attractions for a few days in between, the attraction-based passes are better for you. This is because with day-based attraction passes such as the New York Pass, the days have to be consecutive (otherwise you’re wasting sightseeing days you’ve already paid for).

The best attraction-based city passes include the Explorer Pass New York (Go New York Card) and the New York Sightseeing FLEX Pass.

If you only want to visit one or two specific attractions. Then it is better for you to book the tickets individually.

Who is the New York Pass ideal for?

  • If you are visiting New York for the first time
  • if you are visiting the city as a family and you want to plan a fixed budget
  • if you only want to see and experience the best of the city including the hop-on hop-off buses

How does the New York Pass work?

The principle of the Attractions Pass is very simple and straightforward, as you can see here:

  • Step 1: You decide how many days you want to spend with the New York Pass (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 days – you can decide spontaneously on the spot).
  • Step 2: You book the pass online (this is the cheapest option) and …
  • Step 3: … receive your booking confirmation and personal New York Pass number by email.
  • Step 4: You can save this in the New York Pass app or simply print it out
  • Step 5: When you start your sightseeing tour in New York, show your New York Pass as a printed version or in the app at the ticket counter of the attraction
  • Step 6: The pass is scanned there and you receive your admission ticket.

Which attractions you visit doesn’t matter to the New York Pass – only how many days in a row counts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 days).

I like that

  • Great selection of TOP attractions
  • Incl. hop-on hop-off buses
  • many boat tours included, more than any other
  • you don’t have to decide how many attractions you want to see, just how many sightseeing days (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 days) you plan
  • Uncomplicated and quick admission to sights
  • Lots of additional information about New York’s attractions in the free app

I don’t like this

  • nothing
