How does the Explorer Pass New York work?

The principle of the Explorer Pass is very simple and straightforward, as you can see here:

  • Step 1: You decide how many attractions you want to visit with the Explorer Pass (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10 attractions – you can decide spontaneously on the spot).
  • Step 2: You book the pass online via the official website (this is the cheapest option) and …
  • Step 3: … receive your booking confirmation and personal Explorer Pass number by email
  • Step 4: You can save this in the Go City app or simply print it out
  • Step 5: When you start your sightseeing tour in New York, show your Explorer Pass as a printed version or in the app at the ticket counter of the attraction
  • Step 6: The pass is scanned there and you receive your admission ticket.

Which attractions you visit doesn’t matter with the Explorer Pass (Go New York Card) – only how many attractions you visit counts (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10). And unlike the New York All-Inclusive Pass, you are flexible when it comes to planning your vacation. You can also include a day without sightseeing without your Attractions Pass losing its maximum savings.

The Go City app offers a little extra with additional information on sights, tours and trips as well as special tips for anyone visiting New York.

What I like about the Explorer Pass

  • best offer among the flexible passes
  • all major attractions and tours included (almost 30 to choose from)
  • flexible vacation planning
  • you don’t have to decide which attractions you want to see, just how many (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 10)
  • Uncomplicated and fast admission to attractions
  • Best price-performance ratio

I don’t like that

  • nothing

What is the alternative to the Explorer Pass New York?

An alternative to the Explorer Pass New York is the New York Sightseeing FLEX Pass. It works in the same way, but unfortunately does not include the boat tour to the Statue of Liberty.

New York Explorer Pass vs. New York Sightseeing Flex Pass

To make it easier for you to decide and compare which of the two attraction-based passes is better for you, I have compared them here.
