The Explorer Pass from Go City is one of three sightseeing passes for San Diego (you can compare all three San Diego Passes here). If you’re planning a city trip to San Diego, the Explorer Pass is a great way to experience many attractions, exciting boat tours, and other unique tours affordably.
You can choose between the Explorer Pass for 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7 attractions, so it’s also interesting if you only have selected attractions on your travel plan. Once you use it for the first time on-site, you have a 60 days to use it.

Is the San Diego Explorer Pass Worth It?
I don’t think the San Diego Explorer Pass is the best sightseeing pass for many people.
Why? It’s the only attraction pass that doesn’t include LEGOLAND California or the famous SeaWorld (you can see this in my article San Diego CityPASS vs Go City).
However, if you weren’t planning to visit the theme parks anyway, then the Explorer Pass pays for itself quite easily:
Example #1
If you visit five of the major attractions, you can easily save over 56% ($180) – per person, mind you!
Attractions | Price without pass |
---|---|
San Diego Zoo | $71 |
Hop-on Hop-off Trolley-Tours (2 days) | $83 |
Belmont Park Ride & Play Pass | $54 |
Hornblower Best of Bay Cruise | $46 |
Jet Ski Rental | $82 |
Costs Admission Tickets: | $336 |
Price Explorer Pass 5 Choices: | $170 |
YOUR SAVINGS | $166, that's a 49% saving |
Example #2
Even if the attractions you want to visit in San Diego don’t include the most expensive individual tickets, you can still save more than 20%.
A simple rule applies: The more expensive the individual ticket for the attraction you visit with the San Diego Explorer Pass, the more it’s worth it for you.
Attractions | Price without pass |
---|---|
San Diego Zoo | $71 |
Hornblower Best of Bay Cruise | $46 |
USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum | $31 |
Costs Admission Tickets: | $151 |

How Does the San Diego Explorer Pass Work?
Das Prinzip des Explorer Passes ist ganz einfach und unkompliziert, wie du hier sehen kannst:
- Step 1: Decide how many attractions you want to visit with the Explorer Pass (2, 3, 4, or 5 attractions – you can choose spontaneously on-site).
- Step 2: Book the pass online and …
- Step 3: … receive your booking confirmation and personal Explorer Pass number by email.
- Step 4: Save it in the Go City app.
- Step 5: Show your Explorer Pass at the ticket counter of the attraction.
- Step 6: It’s scanned, and you get your entrance ticket.
The number of attractions you visit (2, 3, 4, 5 or 7) is what matters to the Explorer Pass. Unlike the San Diego All-Inclusive Pass, you’re flexible in your vacation planning. You can take a day off from sightseeing without losing out on maximum savings.
What I Like
- Cost-effective
- No need to decide which attractions to visit, just how many (2, 3, 4, 5, or 7)
- Quick and easy entrance to attractions
- Lots of additional information about San Diego’s attractions in the free Go City app
- Over 40 attractions to choose from
What I Don’t Like
- SeaWorld and LEGOLAND are not included
